Curriculum 21 - Glossary of Curriculum Mapping Terms: Curriculum 21 is the outgrowth of the work of a dynamic group of educators worldwide attempting to help colleagues transform curriculum and school designs to match the needs of 21st century learners. The impetus originated from the Curriculum Mapping work developed by Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs. This resource provides an extensive glossary of curriculum mapping terms.

Curriculum Map Defined: The purpose of a curriculum map is to document the relationship between each component of the curriculum. Curriculum mapping is one tool that helps educators keep track of all the standards for each subject and grade level while ensuring that instructional practices articulate from one grade level to the next.

The Common Core Curriculum Mapping Project: The Common Core Curriculum Mapping Project provides educators with high-quality, low-cost curriculum tools based on the Common Core State Standards. Their 76 detailed ELA curriculum maps and sample lesson plans are designed to help K-12 educators create the kind of “well-developed, content-rich curriculum” called for in the Common Core State Standards.

Pacing Guide Support

Pacing Guide Defined: In contrast to curriculum maps, pacing guides are like timelines showing what each teaching team plans to cover over the course of a year. Each subject area follows a logical sequence within a grade level and between grade levels.

Unit Development Support

Sample ELA Unit Planning Template: This is a unit planning template that you may find useful. This one is specific to ELA, but could be adapted to use in other content areas. This is available in the ELA Live Binders.

Social Studies Unit Development Support : This resource provides a step-by-step guide for creating concept-based units in social studies. Unit templates are available on this site. Although this resource is currently be used by K-12 social studies, the framework is applicable to all content areas.
